Crazy Cool Grapes: White Edition

crazygrapesThis Tuesday Tasting we continue to take a trip off the beaten track to try 3 flavorful whites that are perfect for fall weather. Featuring:

  • Sigalas Santorini Assyrtiko-Athiri, Greece—Retsina this is not! Santorini is famous for its dry white wines (and training the vines to grow in unique basket shapes) and this combination of 2 famous grapes from the region (Assyrtiko and Athiri) results in ripe citrus flavours with a nice touch of salinity and shell for a “last days at the beach” feel. $19 btl, $8 btg
  • Le Paradou Viognier, France – This 100% Viognier from Languedoc is a critics’ hit:  it’s a classic example of the full-bodied white grape, tasting of white peach and lychee with a clean mineral finish at an affordable price point. $12 btl, $6 btg
  • Alexander Valley Gewurz, California—A surprising locale for this traditionally German grape, this California version exhibits all the fall spice flavors the wine is famous for (think nutmeg, cinnamon and clove) with a touch of peach and apricot, but holds back on the floral and sweet notes to end with a nice acidic finish. $11 btl, $6 btg

Tasting: $10
