This Tuesday Tasting (Feb 6) we’re excited to pour some newly arrived reds from the western cape of South Africa. Featuring:
- Rib Shack Vintage Red Blend – Behind the goofy name and rather 80s style label lies a surprisingly elegant (or as the makers describe it “extra smooth”) blend of Pinotage and Shiraz tasting of dried cherries, vanilla and spices, with the appropriate touch of smoke on the finish. $13 btl, $6 btg
- Porcupine Ridge Syrah – From the makers of the Chocolate Block comes this 100% Syrah that tastes like it’s straight from the old world: rich red plum and currants combine with coffee and white pepper for an easy-drinking red that pairs well with cooked and cured meats but also stands well on its own. $14 btl, $7 btg
- Kanonkop Kadette – Famous for cultivating some of South Africa’s best Pinotages, Kanonkop has created a complex blend of Pinotage, Cab, Merlot and Cab Franc that is aged for more than a year in French oak to produce a deep ruby red tasting of raspberries, black currant and dark chocolate. $16 btl, $7 btg
