Succulent Spanish Wines

This week we try three tasty wines from three different regions of Spain. Featuring:

  • Conde Subirats Brut, Cava – This classic Cava has been made for almost 75 years by the Subirats family; sustainably grown and hand harvested, this mix of Macabeo and Parellada undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle (methode champenoise) to create a lively sparkling tasting of ripe green grapes and apples, lemon zest and a hint of chalk. $13 btl, $7 btg
  • Señorio de P. Peciña Crianza, Rioja – This award-winning Rioja epitomizes Spanish wine-making: picked from old-vine Tempranillo, hand racked 4 times, unfined and unfiltered, then aged 2 yrs in oak and 18 mos in the bottle, to create a  classic red tasting of rich plums and berry jam, toasted wood and smoke, with a hint of spice and vanilla on the finish. $22 btl, $8 btg
  • Rotllan Torra Reserva, Priorat – This traditional mix of Carignan and Grenache has an added touch of Cabernet Sauvignon and is aged for 24 months in American oak to create dense, earthy red tasting of dark red fruit, dried raisins, baking spices and a hint of smoke. $28 btl, $9 btg

Tasting: $14

Paired with Spicy Shrimp & Chorizo Flatbread
