Weekly Wine Flight: Tues, Jul 20 – Thurs, Jul 22
This week we try 3 very different styles of this tasty, versatile grape. Featuring:
- Dom. Gassier Nostre Pais Blanc, Costieres de Nimes, France – This beautiful, organic Grenache Blanc blend (balanced with a little Clairette, Viognier and Roussanne) is lightly aged in oak to create a medium bodied white with floral notes, fresh fruit flavours of white peach and pear, and a clean, flinty finish. $20 btl, $8 btg
- Zestos, San Martin (Madrid), Spain – This 100% old-vine Garnacha (50-70 yrs) has been called an “unbelievable wine for the price” by Robert Parker and we agree! A lively red tasting of black raspberry and cherry with a hint of white pepper and minerals on the finish. $13 btl, $6 btg
- Dom. Lafage ‘Nicolas’, Roussillon, France – Another old-vine Grenache, this time from French Catalonia (right along the border of Spain), truly showcases how elegant this grape can be. Hand harvested and aged in neutral oak, the result is a ripe red tasting of raspberry, cassis, blueberries and blackberries, with a long, silky finish. $18 btl, $8 btg
