Weekly Wine Flight: Aug 31 – Sep 2
This week we’re excited to taste 3 South African wines made from the country’s unique grape: Pinotage. Featuring:
- Vrede En Lust “Jess” Rose – This 1688 estate is located in the famous Franschhoek Wine Valley, and this rose made from 75% Pinotage has become one of their biggest hits – strawberry, raspberry and melon combine with floral notes and a clean minerality. $20 btl, $8 btg
- Eikendal Pinotage – This 100% Pinotage from the Stellenbosch region shows how elegant and layered this unique grape can be: violet notes combine with dark plum, black cherry, hints of pepper and spice in this velvety, Burgundian-style red. $35 btl, $12 btg
- Grinder Pinotage – We’ve long been fans of this fun Pinotage, but the newest vintage was an even more pleasant surprise — dark cherry, raspberry and blackberry flavours are balanced with mocha, a hint of campfire smoke, and you guessed, coffee notes! $18 btl, $8 btg
Tasting: $15
Flatbread Pairing $8: Boerewors (Farmer’s Sausage) & Chakalaka (Spicy Tomato Relish)
