Classic French Onion Soup Recipe

Slice 4-5 large onions thinly

Sauté onions in butter over low heat until caramelized, about 30-40 minutes.

 Add 4 cups of beef broth and 2 cups of chicken broth to the caramelized onions.

Simmer the soup for 20-30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

Season with salt, pepper, and a dash of thyme.

Toast slices of baguette until golden brown

Ladle soup into oven-safe bowls, top with baguette slices, and sprinkle with grated Gruyère cheese.

Broil until cheese is melted and bubbly, then serve hot.
