In this round of Tuesday Tastings we try 3 styles of the heavy weight grape Shiraz/Syrah that pack quite a punch:
- Jip Jip Rocks Shiraz, Australia – This nimble Shiraz tastes of dark plum and mulberry complimented by mocha and a touch of cinnamon to create an earthy, layered red grown on the Limestone Coast of Southern Australia. $18 btl/$8 btg
- Klinker Brick Syrah, California – This knockout red from Lodi is fruit forward and lush, tasting of blackberry, currant, and ripe plums, balanced by a subtle smoke and oak to create a lingering but not overwhelming finish. $20 btl/$9 btg
- Small Gully Formula Shiraz, Australia — This Barossa Valley red keeps the hits coming, with combo flavours of rich dark fruits, spices and woody herbs (think pepper, smoked cedar and anise) balanced by a touch of Cab to create an elegant, complex red. $19 btl/$8 btg
