This Tuesday Tasting (June 18) we try three light and luscious reds from the Mediterranean region. Featuring:
- Zoe Red Blend, Greece – This blend of 90% Aghiorghitiko (say it, we dare ya!) and 10% Cab manages to pack a bunch of lovely black fruit flavors (black cherries, plums, and blackberries) with a nice pinch of dried herbs into a medium-bodied, elegant red. $14 btl, $7 btg
- Lago Douro, Portugal – This blend of 4 local varietals (Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional) is hand harvested then fermented in stainless steel before aging in French & American oak to highlight lovely ripe flavors of strawberry, blackberry, and dried plums with a touch of tobacco on the finish. $12 btl, $6 btg
- Brancaia Tre Toscana Supertuscan, Italy — What makes this Tuscan so Super? The “Tre” refers to both the three reds — Sangiovese (80%), Merlot (10%), and Cab (10%) — as well as the 3 Tuscan estates on which the grapes are grown, to create a versatile, medium-bodied red loaded with flavors of wild raspberry, blackberry and cherry, with a hint of coffee on the finish and soft, velvety tannins. $22 btl, $9 btg
