Eastern Promises

Slap, Vipavska brdaThis Tuesday Tasting (Mar 10) we expand our horizons and hop over to Eastern Europe for some unique and delicious wines. Featuring:

  • Giocato Pinot Grigio, Slovenia – Grown along the border of Slovenia and Italy, this 100% Pinot Grigio is from a small family vineyard where it is hand-harvested and fermented naturally to highlight the ripe fruit flavors of the grape: green apple, green grape and light citrus combine with a touch of almond and white floral notes. $12 btl, $6 btg
  • Kiralyudvar Tokaji Furmint, Hungary – Once called “The Nectar of Emperors” (and still home to some of the most expensive white wines in the world), notes of smoke and marzipan combine with flavours of orange, apricot, pear and a touch of tea and dry tobacco in this rich, elegant white from this historic vineyard. $26 btl, $11 glass
  • Macedon Pinot Noir, Macedonia – Grown on the same latitude as Burgundy and Russian River Valley, this layered Pinot kicks off with ripe red and black cherry flavours and a hint of earth, then gradually opens to silky flavours of caramel and plump raisins. $16 btl, $8 btg

Tasting: $13
