Weekly Tasting
Tues, Feb 23 – Thurs, Feb 25
No, we won’t be trying Miranda Lambert’s Red 55 this week (though when Dolly Parton rolls out her own line, you know we’ll be on board!) This week we’re trying 3 wines from the 3 countries that have made the style/varietal famous. Featuring:
- Astrolabe Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, NZ – This highly ranked Sav hits all the right notes! Lemongrass, gooseberry and peach combine with a twist of lime and minerality in this bright, fruity white. $18 btl, $8 btg
- Marcelo Pelleriti Malbec, Uco Valley, Argentina – Another highly ranked wine (James Suckling: 95 pts) from acclaimed winemaker Pelleriti (the only Latin American winemaker to achieve a 100 pt rating from Wine Advocate), this elegant, layered red balances the beautiful fruit flavors of blackberry and dark plum with notes of violet and a hint of grilled mushroom and earth on the finish. $20 btl, $8 btg
- Luigi Righetti Valpolicella Classico, Veneto, Italy – This 120-year old family-run vineyard in the heart of Valpolicella Classico makes beautiful organic reds in the Ripasso and Amarone style; this Ripasso made from the Corvina grape is pressed and then washed over the sundried grapes to create an intense, silky red tasting of strawberry, dried cherry, and currants with hints of Asian spices and smoke that will have you singing its praises! $21 btl, $9 btg
