Weekly Wine Flight: Tues, July 6 – Thurs, July 8
This week we continue our tour of European wines with 3 tasty Italian treats that take us from the boot of Italy to the northern-most mountains. Featuring:
- Barone di Bernaj Catarratto, Sicily – This Sicilian winery specializes in native varietals and this Catarratto (the most widely planted white grape in the region) is a fun example: white fruits, floral notes, and a touch of green almond and minerality make for a refreshing, crisp wine. $14 btl, $7 btg
- Ca La Bionda Valpolicella Classico, Veneto — This classic blend of Corvina, Rondinella & Molinara is fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees for an additional 10 days to gently extract the juice that makes this elegant wine famous. Aromas of fresh flowers (violet) and red fruit (plum, berries) open into complex flavours of black cherry, raspberry and blackberry with hints of anise and Asian spices. $26 btl, $10 btg
- Grasso Fratelli Barbera d’Alba, Langhe, Piedmont – For more than 50 years the Grasso brothers have focused on farming and making classic Barberas, and it shows! This deep violet red tastes of black cherry, dark plum, and raspberry with notes of baking spices and vanilla with a smooth tannic finish. $18 btl, $8 btg
Tasting: $14
Flatbread Pairing $8: Homemade Italian Sausage and Mushroom with Pesto Drizzle
