French & Fabulous!

fabulousfrenchWeekly Wine Flight: Tues, Sept 14 – Thurs, Sept 16

This week we try 3 truly tasty wines from 3 different regions of France that show why terroir can be so important. Featuring:

  • Domaine de l’Epinay “Primula”, Loire Valley – This organic Sauvignon Blanc from Loire ranks up there with some of our favorite Sancerres (and at half the price!) — apple, lime, and hints of fresh cut grass and herbs combine with the slate and minerality that make whites from this region so famous. $18 btl, $8 btg
  • Mary Taylor Anjou Rouge, Anjou-Villages – We’ve been regularly impressed by this entrepreneur who partners with small local winemakers around Europe and this red from 4th generation winemakers Biotteau is another tasty example – sustainably farmed in Anjou (a subregion of Loire), this blend of 80% Cab Franc and 20% Cab Sav balances bright berry, red currant and licorice notes with hints of dried flowers, sandalwood and chalk to create a lean, elegant red. $17 btl, $7 btg
  • Dom. Lafage ‘Nicolas’, Roussillon – This old-vine Grenache from French Catalonia (right along the border of Spain), truly showcases how elegant this grape can be. Hand harvested and aged in neutral oak, the result is a ripe red tasting of raspberry, cassis, blueberries and blackberries, with a long, silky finish. $18 btl, $8 btg

Tasting: $12

Flatbread Pairing $8: Tart Flambee (Bacon & Onion with Creme Fraiche)
