Weekly Wine Flight: Tues, Sep 28 – Thurs, Sep 30
From the French Alps to French Catalonia, this week we try 3 tasty wines that span the country from the mountains to the Mediterranean. Featuring:
- Les Rocailles Apremont, Vin de Savoie – Nestled in the Alps along the border of Switzerland, this small vineyard (24 acres) is famous for its whites, roses and sparklings, and this white made from native varietal Jacquere is a good reason why: rich floral and spice notes open up to a surprisingly crisp white with flavors of green apple, lime and a clean minerality. $18 btl, $8 btg
- Les Rocailles Rosé, Vin de Savoie – This beautiful blush from the same vineyard made of 50/50 Gamay and Pinot Noir was another pleasant surprise: delicate and pale, it packs a powerful punch of fruit flavors – peach, orange, strawberry and raspberry are balanced with a touch of herbs and bitters on the finish. $18 btl, $8 btg
- Domaine Cabirau Côtes du Roussillon – Just a few miles inland from the sea, another small vineyard (23 acres) focuses on bold reds and this blend of Grenache, Carignan and Syrah is a tasty example: hand harvested on the steep slopes that give the grapes a rich minerality, when combined with dark fruit flavours of blueberry, blackberry and hints of baking spices makes for a smooth, silky red. $19 btl, $8 btg
Tasting: $13
