Basque Country

basquecountrytastingThis Tuesday Tasting we’re excited to take a tour of the Basque region of Spain (bordering France along the Pyrenees Mountains). The area is famous for its unique culture, language, food and, of course, wines, and these 3 interesting examples are no exception. Featuring:

  • Avinyo Cava Brut Reserve – This highly ranked vintage sparkling (RParker & Vinous: 90 pts) is made with traditional Cava grapes (Parellada, Xarello, and Macabeo) in the traditional methode champenoise, then aged for 24 months to produce a lively citrus zest with touches of pear, orange blossoms, and a hint of chalk on the finish. $17 btl, $7 btg
  • Xarmant Arabako Txakolina – Don’t worry we won’t ask you to pronounce it, but we hope you’ll enjoy the chance to try this elegant summer white made from local grapes (Hondarribi and Izkiriota) tasting of crisp apples, pears, and a hint of tangy wild berries with a wet stone finish. $18 btl, $8 btg
  • Ameztoi Txakolina Rubentis – Another mouthful, both in name and flavours, this highly ranked rose (Vinous: 92 pts) offers a bright punch of color and tastes: red berries, currants, and tangerine combine with a touch of minerality in this easy drinking summer blush.  $21 btl, $8 btg

Tasting: $12
