Ansell Lewis Death: Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd has confirmed the identity of the victim as 60-year-old Reinetta Lewis.
According to Dothan Police reports Lewis was fatally shot in the front yard of a residence on Reeves Street shortly after noon.
Just days before the tragic incident in Dothan, Reinetta Lewis had filed a Protection Order against her former spouse. She expressed concerns about her ex-husband’s bipolar disorder and episodes of destructive behavior.
Court records indicate that the couple, both in their sixties, had been married for less than three years.
Although not officially confirmed by the police, it is widely reported that Ansell Elijah Lewis shot his wife multiple times before taking his own life.
Reinetta Lewis had initiated the Protection from Abuse motion the previous Thursday, with a scheduled hearing set for March 14.
She had filed for divorce in December 2023, which was finalized by a Houston County judge in January 2024, citing frequent arguments with her husband.
Dothan police spokesperson Lt. Scott Hall informed reporters that the investigation into the incident remains ongoing, with further details to be released in due course.
