Joe Fitzgerald Obituary Boston : On March 7, 2024, Joseph W. Fitzgerald, affectionately known as Joe, passed away peacefully at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving family. A Lovely Family Man

Joe’s dedication to family was evident in every aspect of his life. He was the loving husband of the late Carol (Dawson) Fitzgerald and a devoted father to Mike Fitzgerald, Kate Kelley, and Tim Fitzgerald. As a cherished “Grampa” to Xavier, Elaina, Keira, Cameron, and Skylar, Joe found immense joy in the presence of his grandchildren. His strong bonds with siblings Bob Fitzgerald and Dee Fitzgerald highlighted the importance of family connections in shaping Joe’s character.

Born to Joseph and Virginia Fitzgerald, Joe grew up in Roxbury and graduated from Christian High School in 1962, laying the foundation for the values that would define his future.

A Journey of Love and Partnership

Joe’s life took a significant turn when he met Carol, the love of his life, while working in St. Johnsbury, VT. Their love story led to marriage in 1966, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared experiences. Carol’s passing in 2012 marked the end of a beautiful chapter, but her memory continued to guide Joe.

A Career in Writing: Joe the Columnist and Author

Joe pursued his dream of becoming a writer, serving as a columnist at the Boston Herald for four decades. Passionate about his craft, he cherished the friendships he made through his career. He authored six books and co-hosted the show Sports Beat on channel 38 in Boston, showcasing his storytelling prowess and remarkable memory for details.

A Man of Faith: Deep Devotion

Joe’s faith was a central aspect of his life, enriched by his experiences at Christian High, Dudley Street Church, and Singspiration. He shared a passion for southern gospel music with Carol, leading them to establish Meetinghouse Concerts. Their annual trips to National Quartet conventions reflected their shared love for this musical genre.

While Joe’s professional achievements were noteworthy, his family, friends, and faith were the pillars of his life. He often expressed feeling “blessed beyond measure.”

Joe’s Funeral Service will be held at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home on Friday, March 15, at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at the United Church of Norwood at 10 a.m. Visiting Hours will take place on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 4 – 8 p.m. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s memory can be made to the Norwood Circle of Hope, PO Box 421, Norwood, MA 02062. Joe will be laid to rest alongside Carol at Highland Cemetery, marking the end of a remarkable journey, well-lived and deeply cherished.
