Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy has set a new speed record at the NFL scouting combine.
During his second attempt, Worthy blazed through the course in a remarkable 4.21 seconds, surpassing John Ross III’s longstanding record from 2017 by .01 seconds. According to Next Gen Stats, Worthy reached an impressive speed of 24.21 mph.
This historic achievement followed Worthy’s initial run of 4.25 seconds, which already outpaced all other participants in the field. His remarkable 10-yard split of 1.45 seconds was the fastest of the entire weekend. Given his outstanding performance, it was only fitting for Worthy to make another attempt. Initially measured at 4.22 seconds, his second run was officially updated to 4.21 seconds, cementing his status as the fastest man in combine history.
Comparing Worthy to Ross, the former University of Washington wideout who previously held the record:
Ross experienced a significant rise in his draft prospects following the combine, ultimately leading to his selection by the Cincinnati Bengals as the ninth overall pick in 2017. However, his career was cut short due to various injuries, prompting his retirement last offseason. Despite the setbacks, Ross managed to amass 62 receptions for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns during his tenure with the Bengals and New York Giants.
Even before tying the record, Worthy garnered considerable attention. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive end Charles Omenihu took to social media to express their astonishment at his impressive first run.

The consecutive Super Bowl winners will hold the final pick in the first round of this year’s draft, but they weren’t the only ones impressed.
Former NFL receiver DeSean Jackson clocked an impressive 4.35 seconds at his combine, while Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill posted a swift 4.29 at his Pro Day. Their reactions, combined with Worthy’s remarkable run, leave little to say except variations of “sheesh” or “crazy.”

In the recent season with Texas, Worthy recorded 75 receptions for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns, contributing significantly to the team’s Big 12 title win and their inaugural appearance in the College Football Playoff. He is expected to be a notable prospect to watch in the first round of this year’s draft, scheduled for April 25th.
