Keys deputy arrested for battery at Duval Street bar

A Monroe County sheriff’s deputy was arrested and booked into jail Monday morning on a misdemeanor battery charge after an incident at a bar on Key West’s well-known Duval Street, according to his employer.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported that Jesus Abdiel Rojas Burgos, 28, allegedly “touched or grabbed (a) female victim against her will” at Rick’s Bar/Durty Harry’s at 202 Duval St., around 1 a.m.

Key West police took him into custody shortly after the incident.

Rojas Burgos, who has been on the job for less than a year since being hired in April 2023, remains held in the MCSO’s Key West jail facility as of Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Rick Ramsay stated in a news release, “I take these incidents very seriously, will investigate this matter fully, and take the appropriate action. I am committed to keeping this community informed of significant events that occur in this agency — good or bad.”
