This Tuesday Tasting (Jan 21) we try three big, bold California reds that will warm you in this winter weather.
- Smith & Hook Red Blend, Central Coast – This blend of Malbec, Merlot, Petite Verdot and Cab highlights everything that Cali does well in reds: opulent aromas of black currant plum and blueberry are accompanied by notes of tobacco, leather and vanilla in this layered, silky red. $20 btl, $8 btg
- Cosentino Cigar Old Vine Zin, Lodi – A rich Lodi red, this highly ranked wine tastes of black berry, cherry and pepper, with rich meaty and wood smoke undertones. $17 btl, $8 btg
- Tribute Cab, Paso Robles/Monterey – This velvety Cab sourced from family vineyards in two different appellations has dark fruit flavours of black cherry and currant, with a touch of cassis, tea and spice. $15 btl, $7 btg
