This Tuesday Tasting we go back to the classics, featuring 3 fun and flavorful merlots from South America. Turning the tables on the Sideways classic: “If anyone orders merlot, I’m staying!” Featuring:
- Rayun Reserve Merlot, Chile – From the Central Valley this affordable red offers a lot of bang for the buck: bright and fruity, tasting of cherry, strawberry, and woody flavours with a surprisingly smooth finish.
- Tilia Merlot, Argentina – This consistently highly ranked red (88 pts Wine Spectator ’13, 91 pts Robert Parker ‘11) tastes of plum, pomegranate and black cherries with a hint of herbs and a soft, elegant finish and is expected to only improve with age over the next few years.
- Botalcura Merlot Reserve, Chile – If you tried this vineyard’s Cab Franc that we featured this winter, you’ll know that the winemakers can offer up rich red mouthful, and this is no exception: blackberry, leather, clove and smoke combine in this big red.
