Rustic Reds

PinotgesOur tasting tour of South African wines continue with three rustic reds made from the county’s signature grape: Pinotage (a hybrid of pinot noir and cinsault/hermitage). Featuring:

  • MAN Vintners – This blend of Pinotage (86%) and Shiraz (14%) from MAN Vintners (ironically named after the owners’ wives) emphasizes the fruitiness of the pinot noir: ruby red and tasting of red berries, nutmeg and a hint of vanilla and mocha.
  • Riebeek – Grown in the Riebeek Valley where the grape is exposed to both Indian and Atlantic Ocean winds, this bright, medium-bodied red tastes of ripe plum and fruitcake with a touch of oak and a dry, spicy finish.
  • Grinder – If the name and the coffee grinder on the label isn’t enough of a hint, coffee addicts will love this big juicy red that’s loaded with black plum, smoke, toasty oak, spices, and yes, you guessed it, roasted coffee beans.
